The hotel has a retro / old-timey Victorian charm, it might not be to everyone's taste, but we simply loved it! It is located close to Japantown & Pacific Heights neighborhoods, which was definitely a plus. Very convenient to go sightseeing and check the Painted Ladies, but also to wander in cool local neighborhoods. Public transportation (bus) is close, so very convenient to go all over the city. The room was very comfortable and quiet. The staff was super helpful: my husband could not lift any suitcase due to a recent surgery, they carried everything in our room. The sherry time from 4 to 6 was definitely a plus: it's great to know you can hang out and have a nice drink in the common area in between walks in the city.

I have never stayed here and it was absolutely beautiful. I love history so that was the initial reason I chose this place. It use to be a girls boarding school. The lobby was decorated for Christmas. The cookies were delicious, as was the breakfast. There was an air of spookiness in one part of the 2nd floor hallway but it didn’t feel sinister. I loved the fireplace in my room and I slept well since the bed was so comfortable.

We picked this hotel for the pictures and were not disappointed: The decor is lovely, like a step back in time - and the christmas decorations made it even more inviting. The room was beautiful, not really big but certainly adequate. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Convenient central location; you can walk to all major sights (Golden Gate Bridge, Fishermans Warf, Chinatown) in 30-45 minutes.

I enjoyed being close to the Fillmore and Japantown, and not all that far from other cool SF locations. In addition, the place itself is charming with antiques and decorations that were warm and cozy. Breakfast was fine, and the 4:00 afternoon tea and cookies was something I looked forward to during my three-day stay.

A beautiful place to stay. Old fashioned but certainly know how to look after their guests. The hotel was very festive. The lounge area had beautiful fire places and were comfy to sit and relax in after a full days walking and sight seeing. The Sherry and cookies between 4pm and 6pm were a wonderful touch.
